Wildflower Week at Sunshine Meadows 2013: August 5th ~ 11th

Come out and visit us at the Sunshine Meadows this summer at the height of the wildflower season!

Over the course of the week we will be offering a free Eco-Yoga workshop, flower identification presentation, flower photography workshop, Photography contest (free to enter),
Wildflower Hunt and free guided Interpretive walks.
**Each event is compliemtary with a purchase of a shuttle ticket (reservation necessary)!

August 5th:
Flower Identification Presentation by Jacinthe Lavoie & Flower Photography Presentation by Ian Wilson

Come meet Jacinthe Lavoie and Ian Wilson, the authors of "Wildflowers of Banff Park" - a new 200 page full-colour book that features more than 160 wildflowers of Banff National Park, from forest glades to alpine ridges.!

Jacinthe provides a flower identification presentation followed by a guide flower identification walk. She will discuss the different parts of flowering plants, flower families, using flower and leaf features to identify lowers, and how to use a guidebook to identify flowers! Each participant will receive a handout with basic flower features and a list of flowers found at Sunshine Meadows!

Ian provides a flower photography presentation followed by a short walk to demonstrate different lighting, compositions, and macro photography techniques. During his presentation he will discuss using tripod, reflectors, shade, and macro lenses, along with a discussion of depth of field, lighting, and composition. The walk will include a hands-on opportunity for participants to learn how to use their camera equipment to best capture flowers!

August 5th-11th: Wildflower Hunt

Fun for all the family! As you walk around the beautiful meadows, mark the names of the flowers in bloom you see, and where you saw them. The entries who see the most flowers will be entered into our prize draw! Ask the deli attendant for your entry form upon arival. The winner will be announced on August 12th!

August 6th & 8th: Free Guided Interpretive Walks

In just 15 minutes of walking you'll reach the continental divide with its incredible views of Mt. Assiniboine and asurrounding sea of peaks, plus open alpine terrain of wildflowers, lakes and larch forests. Led by one of our professional guides you'll hike comfortably through this landscape and also learn about its naturem wildlife and history.

9:30 AM ~ 2:00 PM (Please book your shuttle time for 9:00 am.)

August 9th-11th: 5th Annual Photo Contest

Anybody who has a passion for taking pictures can join the event.  Take your time to explore the open meadows any time this summer and capture its beauty in your lens!  Submit two of your works with titles to White Mountain Adventures in digital format and as printed 8"x10".  All of the photos will be displayed at the Sunshine Trail Centre and on our website and will be voted on by visitors to Sunshine.  Great Prizes!

August 7th: 9th Annual "Plein" Air PaintOut at the Sunshine Meadows

White Mountain Adventures and Sunshine Meadows are happy to present our 9th Annual Plein Air paint out

We have invited some of the Bow Valley and Canada's favourite mountain artists to join us up at the Sunshine Meadows. The artists will be capturing the spectacular landscapes and scenery of the beautiful alpine meadows. They will be painting and drawing throughout the meadows at locations of their choosing and you are invited to visit and watch these artists at work.

August 11th: "Eco-Yoga" Demo Day at Sunshine Meadows

Come up to Sunshine on August 11th and join Ronna Schneberger for a mountain yoga experience. Ronna, the owner of EcoYoga Adventures, has been a professional interpretive hiking guide in the Canadian Rockies since 1994 and a Hatha Yoga instructor since 2000. She is a pioneer in combining hiking, yoga, and storytelling. She'll be leading a 2~3 hour program beginning at 9:30 am. (Please book your shuttle time for 9:00 am. ) After yoga, you'll have all day to hike the trails in the meadows!

Throughout the summer, numbers of diffirent competitions are offered at the meadows! Every 2 weeks or so we have a different question/quiz you can entre your answer to and have a chance to win a prize! Ask our deli staff for more information how to participate upon arrival!

A Meadows Card is the most affordable way to take the shuttle bus to Sunshine Meadows. Valid for 5 visits for you and any of your family or friends, this card costs $100 and saves you $35 off the regular fare. As an added bonus you'll also receive a free copy of our new "Alpine Wildflowers of the Canadian Rockies " Guide. "Larch Madness" Fall Special - 2013

Come up to the Sunshine Meadows to see the changing of the Larch trees! From Sept. 9th until the end of the season, all adult ticket prices from the parking lot are reduced to $20 per person ($10 per child)! All adult tickets prices from Banff are reduced to $45 per person ($25 per child). Tickets can be booked online.
