Wildflower Week: August 4 - 10, 2014

Come out and visit us at the Sunshine Meadows this summer at the height of the wildflower season and take part in one of our great activities!

Flower Identification Presentation by Jacinthe Lavoie & Flower Photography Presentation by Ian Wilson - August 4th:

JacintheCome meet Jacinthe Lavoie and Ian Wilson, the authors of "Wildflowers of Banff Park" - a new 200 page full-colour book that features more than 160 wildflowers of Banff National Park, from forest glades to alpine ridges.!

Jacinthe provides a flower identification presentation followed by a guided flower identification walk. She will discuss the different parts of flowering plants, flower families, using flower and leaf features to identify flowers, and how to use a guidebook to identify flowers!

Ian provides a flower photography presentation followed by a short walk to demonstrate different lighting, compositions, and macro photography techniques. During his presentation he will discuss using tripod, reflectors, shade, and macro lenses, along with a discussion of depth of field, lighting, and composition. The walk will include a hands-on opportunity for participants to learn how to use their camera equipment to best capture flowers!

Wildflower Hunt - August 4th-10th:

Fun for all the family! As you walk around the beautiful meadows, mark the names of the flowers in bloom you see, and where you saw them. The entries who see the most flowers will be entered into our prize draw! Ask our guest services attendant for your entry form upon arrival. The winner will be announced on August 12th!

Free Guided Interpretive Walks - August 5th & 7th:

In just 15 minutes of walking you'll reach the continental divide with its incredible Guided Hikeviews of Mt. Assiniboine and surrounding sea of peaks, plus open alpine terrain of wildflowers, lakes and larch forests. Led by one of our professional guides you'll hike comfortably through this landscape and also learn about its nature wildlife and history.

9th Annual "Plein" Air Paint Out - August 6th:

White Mountain Adventures and Sunshine Meadows are happy to present our 9th Annual Plein Air paint out

We have invited some of the Bow Valley and Canada's favourite mountain artists to join us up at the Sunshine Meadows again. The artists will be capturing the spectacular landscapes and scenery of the beautiful alpine meadows. They will be painting and drawing throughout the meadows at locations of their choosing and you are invited to visit and watch these artists at work.

Weather Course - August 6th:

Sunshine Meadows is in a very unique location in the Canadian Rockies. In a distance of a few kilometers, the climate changes from extremely wet to dry creating a unique distribution of plant and animal life. Join White Mountain adventures as they present a free Interpretive talk about the weather and climate of this unique area. Weather permitting, the discussion will occur at Rock Isle Lake after a short half hour walk, in bad weather, it will occur inside the day lodge.

5th Annual Photo Contest - August 8th-10th:

Anybody who has a passion for taking pictures can join the event.  Take your time to explore the open meadows any time this summer and capture its beauty in your lens!  Submit two of your works with titles to White Mountain Adventures in digital format and as printed 8"x10".  All of the photos will be displayed at the Sunshine Trail Centre and on our website and will be voted on by visitors to Sunshine.  Great Prizes!

"Eco-Yoga" Demo Day at Sunshine Meadows - August 10th:

Come up to Sunshine on August 11th and join Ronna Schneberger for a mountain yoga experience. Ronna, the owner of EcoYoga Adventures, has been a professional interpretive hiking guide in the Canadian Rockies since 1994 and a Hatha Yoga instructor since 2000. She is a pioneer in combining hiking, yoga, and storytelling. She'll be leading a 2~3 hour program beginning at 9:30 am. After yoga, you'll have all day to hike the trails in the meadows!

Family and Friends Meadows Cards Save $35 (Only available for purchase before July 13th.)

A Meadows Card is the most affordable way to take the shuttle bus to Sunshine Meadows. Valid for 5 visits for you and any of your family or friends, this card costs $100 and saves you $35 off the regular fare. As an added bonus you'll also receive a free copy of our new "Alpine Wildflowers of the Canadian Rockies " Guide. This card can only be purchased by calling 403-760-4403 or emailing us at info@whitemountainadventures.com. Reservations cannot be made online using this card but can be made by telephone.

Season's Pass

Do you like to hike often in the Sunshine Meadows? Then why not buy a Season's Pass for $80 and come up as often as you like! Local Appreciation Days 2014 - July 15th & August 15th!

Do you live in the Bow Valley? If so, come up and visit us on July 15th or August 15th and save $11 on your shuttle ticket. Adult ticket cost is $16 per person. Proof of local residency required. "Larch Madness" Fall Special - 2014

Come up to the Sunshine Meadows to see the changing of the Larch trees! From Sept. 8th until the end of the season, all adult ticket pricesfrom the parking lot are reduced to $20 per person ($10 per child)! All adult tickets prices from Banff are reduced to $45 per person ($25 per child). Tickets can be booked online.
